I have two friends whose talent is above average. One is an artist, the other one is incredibly competent at what she does and lives on referrals, good but not enough for her business. They are interested in exposing themselves to start building their personal brand, but these two things are blocking them:
- fear of being judged
- strive for perfection
This is what I told them:
They seem to agree with me, but will they commit and take the risks they need to take?
The past few months I’ve invested a great amount of time, energy and (some) money on LinkedIn. I’ve learned about its algorithm, content creation, hashtags, best time for posting, social selling, sales navigator, the importance of consistency, a good profile, about section, recommendations. . .✔ But by far the best tip I have ever been given is to make LinkedIn a place you enjoy being. First step. Because understanding and applying all those learnings takes time. And some days I love it but there are days where I’m exhausted and feel I need a break. At least connect with people you like, who make you feel good, and inspire you! At least you’ll have than on the bad days.
Social media as a world of opportunitiesI recently had a glass of wine with a close friend, and we talked about social media and personal branding. She thinks that:✅ A person is not a product. When you present yourself as a product you somehow dehumanize yourself.✅ If you are good enough, why the need to say it?✅ She likes modesty and feels uncomfortable with self-exposure.✅ Everything shown in social media is positive, so it is not real. Life has a negative side too.✅ She doesn´t want to contribute to the narrowing of the global attention span.I think that:✅ Social media is a world of opportunities.✅ If you don´t communicate you don´t exist. You could be the best but if nobody knows, you won´t get far.✅ People identify pretending versus being authentic, so everybody is real.✅ Because you are committed to providing value, you have to reflect and prepare your content which helps you grow and develop.✅ Social media is a fitness center to fight our fear of being judged.Who are you with?(A glass of red + a true friendship = best conversations! 🥰)
